Bulldog Update
The indoor season comes to a close this weekend, as Fresno State prepares for the 2006 WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho. Fresno State will have to shake off some rust, having not participated in an indoor event since the Bill Cosby Open back on Feb. 4. The Bulldogs did not compete in a scheduled meet last weekened in Reno due to weather conditions and participated outdoors at the Lee Adams Invitational the previous week.
Taking A Look Back: 2005 WAC Indoor Championships
Fresno State placed third at the 2005 WAC Indoor Championships, tallying 76 points to finish behind champion Louisiana Tech and runner-up Rice. The Bulldogs were without an event champion but were led by the following: Aspen Marshall taking second in the weight throw with a toss of 56-8.75 (17.29m), Annie Malaythong reaching 12-2.50 (3.72) for a runner-up finish in the pole vault, Regina Ollison checking in fifth with a 39-7.25 (12.07m) effort in the triple jump and Katie Christianson placing second in the pentathlon.
`Dogs Take A Break Outdoors
The Bulldogs took a break from indoor competition and participated at the Lee Adams Invitational on Feb. 11 in Bakersfield. The meet was hosted by Cal State Bakersfield and included elite high school athletes and the Teekay Track Club of Los Angeles. First-place finishes included: Renee Winston winning the 300-meters at 40.1; Winnie Fletcher and Tonisha Henson leaping 17-4.50 in the long jump and Brooke Cranston and Stacy Hunt vaulting 10-6.
Fifth Place The Spot At Air Force Invitational
Fresno State collected 46 points and finished fifth at the 16th annual Air Force Invitational on Feb. 4. Zinzi Evans ran a 2:24.39 to take fourth in the 800-meter dash. The 4x400-yard relay team of Lopez, McCoy, Evans and Renee Winston finished fourth at 4:03.13. Lauren Archie leaped a personal-best 11.96m (39-3) in the triple jump to take second while Regina Ollison was right behind in third at 11.74m (38-6.25). Aspen Marshall posted two top-five finishes, including a career-best 58-4 (17.78m) in the weight throw.
`Dogs Open Season At Silver State Invitational
Fresno State opened its season at the Silver State Invitational on Jan. 28, representing the team's first of three trips to Reno, Nev., for the indoor season. Two of the Bulldog's top efforts came from the 4x400-m and 4x800-m relay squads, which each finished first. In addition, Tonisha Henson led her division of the long jump with a career-best leap of 5.87m.
Run For The Dream Kicks Off Indoor Season
An enthusiastic crowd of 5,806 witnessed world records, personal-bests and Olympians during the inaugural Run For The Dream indoor track meet, held Jan. 16 at the Save Mart Center. The meet was created to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., while presenting the community with an opportunity to honor track and field stars of the past along with those of the present and future. Run For The Dream featured youth, high school, junior college and open-intercollegiate and professional divisions.
