Mackin Named Xbox Live WAC Pitcher Of The Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Freshman right-handed pitcher Robin Mackin (Newmarket, Ontario) was honored as the Xbox Live Western Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week this afternoon.
Last week Mackin went 2-2 in three starts with three complete games in 25.1 innings for a 0.83 ERA against Pacific and No. 2 UCLA. Averaging 8.1 strikeouts per 7/IP, she struck out 29 and walked six while allowing three runs (two earned) on 16 hits in four appearances.
In her second full week of collegiate softball, Mackin recorded her first collegiate shutout over Pacific in the Bulldogs' 2-0 home win. In that game she tossed a three-hitter and struck out 11 for her third consecutive 10-strikeout performance on the season.
In the night cap versus the Tigers, she proved her mettle in the circle and at the plate as she notched a win in relief as well as recording the game-winning hit. In relief she struck out four in 2.2 innings of work to improve to 4-1 on the season. At the plate she collected a one-out RBI single in the sixth to give the Bulldogs the lead and eventual 6-5 victory.
At No. 2 UCLA, Mackin started both games against the Bruins. She allowed three runs, walked six and struck out 14 in 15.2 innings. In the second game versus UCLA, in which the Bulldogs stranded 13 runners, Mackin pitched scoreless ball for 9.2 innings before allowing the winning run to score on hit by pitch.
On the year, Mackin has lowered her ERA to 1.78 as she owns a 4-3 record with 59 strikeouts in 43.1 innings. She is averaging 9.6 strikeouts/7 innings as opponents are batting .204 against.
Fresno State is at home this week with a non-conference doubleheader against UC Davis on Wed., Feb. 22, 6:00 p.m. Season and single-game tickets can be purchased online at www.gobulldogs.com or through the Bulldog Ticket Office at (559) 278-3647.
The Bulldogs, who are ranked 22nd in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Poll and 25th in the USA Today/NFCA Poll, will participate in the Palm Springs Classic this weekend, Fri.-Sun., Feb. 24-26. The 23-team four-day tournament field will showcase a number of Top 25 teams in No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Arizona, No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 12 Oregon State, No. 15 Baylor, No. 18 Oregon and No. 25 LSU.
Fresno State's tournament schedule includes Kansas (10:00 a.m.) and Oklahoma (1:00 p.m.) on Fri., Feb. 25. On Saturday, the Bulldogs will meet Texas (3:00 p.m.) and Texas Tech (8:00 p.m.). The `Dogs wrap up tournament play against Cal Poly (1:00 p.m.) on Sun., Feb. 27.
