Tonisha Henson Places Sixth In Pentathlon At WAC Indoors

FRESNO, Calif.- Senior Tonisha Henson tallied 3,175 points to finish sixth overall in the pentathlon on Thursday evening at the WAC Indoor Championships in Boise, Idaho.
Henson, who totaled 3,036 points in last year's competition, picked up three points in the process as the meet continues Friday afternoon. Freshman Cheri Ramirez was the other Bulldog entrant to participate, although she only managed to record a score in one event (shot put).
Lacy Hulbert of Utah State claimed gold, registering 3,914 points. Annett Wichmann of Hawai'i was the runner-up with 3,741 points while Cal State Northridge's Kayli Sanders placed third with 3,526 points.
Henson posted her best finish in the 800-meters, coming in fourth place overall with a time of 2:30.55. She took sixth place in the shot put with a mark of 33-10.75 (10.33m) and finished eighth in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.45.
Henson was 12th overall in the high jump (4-8.75/1.44m) and long jump (16-5.75/5.02m).
Utah State has the early lead on the women's side with 14 points. In second is Cal State Northridge with 11 points, with Hawaii just behind the Matadors with 10. In fourth is Fresno State with three, while Nevada rounds out the field with one.
The women will continue to score all eight places. The point system is as follows; 1st/10 pts., 2nd/8, 3rd/6, 4 th/5, 5 th/4, 6 th/3, 7th/2, 8th/1.
The WAC will be awarding all-WAC teams this year, with the top three finishers taking home first-team honors, while places four, five and six are tabbed second-team all-WAC.
The preliminaries will begin Friday at 5:00 p.m. with the 60- meter hurdles and women's weight throw and pole vault.
