Women's Indoor Track Places Ninth At WAC Championships

BOISE, Idaho- Fresno State totaled 30 points and placed ninth overall at the 2006 WAC Indoor Championships, which concluded on Saturday night in Boise, Idaho.
Louisiana Tech successfully defended its title, scoring 131 points to claim the championship. Runner-up Idaho notched 90 points, followed by Utah State in third with 78.
Boise State (78), Nevada (77), Cal State Northridge (68), Hawai'i (52) and New Mexico State (49) rounded out the Nos. 4-8 positions. Fresno State, which placed third overall at last year's conference meet, was without an event champion in the meet.
Fresno State registered two top-five finishes on Saturday afternoon. Renee Winston crossed the line at a personal-best 57.14 in the finals of the 400-meters to take fifth overall. La'Sha Hill placed fifth in the shot put with a career-best toss of 47-3.75 (14.42m). Those efforts, along with the Bulldog's distance medley relay team taking third with a time of 12:27.33 were the only top-five performances.
Also on Saturday, Zinzi Evans ran a personal-best 2:13.84 in the finals of the 800-meters while Lauren Archie matched a career-high in the triple jump at 39-3 (11.96m).
Fresno State continues its outdoor season next weekend with a Northern California Collegiate Series meet in Turlock.
