FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's golf team opens its spring season Wednesday at the three-day University of Hawaii at Hilo Intercollegiate with play at the par-72 Waikoloa Village Golf Course in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
The first of seven spring tournaments the Bulldogs are scheduled to participate in, the Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate features some of the nation's top golf teams. No. 2 Georgia Tech, No. 3 Oklahoma State, 10th-ranked Arizona State and No. 16 Texas highlight the list of 21 teams competing.
Fresno State's lineup consists of seniors Jonny Rosa, Jason Anthony, Mark Modglin, Ryan McDonald and Brian Kelley.
The tournament format is 18 holes per day with 9 a.m. PT tee times.
Fresh off a three-month break, Fresno State is ranked No. 55 in GolfStat's NCAA head-to-head final fall standings. Head coach Mike Watney hopes to see the Bulldogs move up in the rankings as the challenging spring competition gets underway.
"I'm excited to tee it up again this spring," Watney said. "The return of Brian Kelley will boost what is already a strong lineup including Jonny Rosa, Jason Anthony and Ryan McDonald. We are jumping right into the fire in Hawaii. It is the kind of field that will show you your place among the NCAA powerhouses. This is why you practice."
