Bulldog Update
Next up for Fresno State is an appearance at the Cal Poly Invitational, which is scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 18, in San Luis Obispo. The Bulldogs, coming off strong outings in back-to-back Northern California Collegiate Series meets, will look to continue their success this weekend. Last year, Fresno State battled adverse weather conditions at the non-scoring Cal Poly Invitational.
Men's Team
`Dogs Deadlocked With Chico State
Fresno State wrapped up an impressive afternoon at the Chico Wildcat Relays last weekend, finishing in a first-place tie with host Chico State. The Bulldogs held off a late surge by Chico State as both clubs recorded 166 points. Cal State Stanislaus was third with 62 points. The Bulldogs were once again led by Ryan Moore. The junior posted the top time in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.37 and was a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that took first at 3:17.60. Three other Bulldog relay squads (4x200, 4x400, 800 sprint medley) also took first. Adam Andresen and Alex Jones recorded season-high marks in the pole vault and long jump, respectively. Ian Mason finished third in the 5000-meter run at 15:04.37 and steeplechase at 9:53.27.
Season Gets Underway In Turlock
Fresno State netted six first-place finishes at the Stanislaus Open in Turlock, Calif. on Mar. 4. Two of those came from Ryan Moore, who ran a 47.85 in the 400-meters and 52.95 in the 400-meter hurdles. The Bulldog's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams also checked in first. Taylor Franzman reached 14-6 (4.42m) in the pole vault to win the event.
Bulldogs Impressive At Lee Adams Invitational
Fresno State took a break from indoor competition and participated at the Lee Adams Invitational in Bakersfield on Feb. 11. The Bulldogs earned numerous first-place finishes in the meet, which was hosted by Cal State Bakersfield and included elite high school athletes and the Teekay Track Club of Los Angeles. Notable first-place finishes for Fresno State included: Ryan Moore capturing titles in the 500-meters (1:03.8) and 300-meter hurdles (38.5) and Kyle Montgomery notching a 46-10 in the triple jump.
Pagel Named To World Indoor Championships Staff
Fresno State assistant track and field coach Ramona Pagel has been named to the coaching staff for Team USA at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Moscow, Russia. Pagel, who works specifically with the men's and women's throws as a member of the Bulldog coaching staff, will serve in that same capacity for Team USA on the women's side when the World Indoor Championships take place Mar. 10-12 at the Olimpiyskiy Sport Palace Complex. Pagel arrived at Fresno State after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach for the track and field and cross country programs at Southeastern Louisiana. In addition her coaching background, Pagel has enjoyed success at all levels. A four-time Olympian ('84, '88, '92, '96), Pagel was a gold medalist at the 1987 Pan Am Games and is the American record holder in the shot put with a distance of 66-2.50.

`Dogs Claim First At Wildcat Relays
Fresno State wrapped up an impressive afternoon at the Chico Wildcat Relays last weekend, claiming a first-place finish with 166 points. Chico State was the runner-up with 166 points while Cal State Stanislaus placed third with 58. Katie Richardson otched a season-best 162-1 in the discus while taking second in the hammer and javelin. Stacy Hunt reached a personal-best 11-8 in the pole vault. Fresno State was strong in the relays, capturing first-place honors in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x800 and distance medley. Other Bulldogs collecting up first-place honors were: Tonisha Henson, Erica McCoy, Winnie Fletcher, La'Sha Hill, Jamie Farley and Mallory Webb.
Season Gets Underway In Turlock
Three Bulldog throwers posted NCAA Regional qualifying marks on Mar. 4, highlighting Fresno State's performance at the Stanislaus Open in Turlock. La'Sha Hill (shot put), Katie Richardson (discus) and Mallory Webb (javelin) all surpassed the NCAA Regional qualifying standard as the Bulldog women's team registered 11 first-place finishes. Hill threw a career-best 48-4.50 (14.74m) in the shot put, Richardson's toss of 161-5 (49.20m) in the discus led the field and Webb recorded a mark of 149-6 (45.58m) in the javelin. Other first-place finishers included: Christina Lopez (58.19) in the 400-meters, Zinzi Evans (2:16.20) in the 800-meters and Jamie Farley (168-11) in the hammer.

Women's Indoor Track Places Ninth At WAC Championships
Fresno State totaled 30 points and placed ninth overall at the 2006 WAC Indoor Championships at Boise, Idaho. Louisiana Tech successfully defended its title, scoring 131 points to claim the championship. Runner-up Idaho notched 90 points, followed by Utah State in third with 78. Fresno State was without an event champion in the meet but registered two top-five finishes on the final day. Renee Winston crossed the line at a personal-best 57.14 in the finals of the 400-meters to take fifth overall. La'Sha Hill placed fifth in the shot put with a career-best toss of 47-3.75 (14.42m).
