Strong Outings Highlight Cal Poly Invitational

FRESNO, Calif.- Fresno State's track and field squad turned in a strong outing on both the men's and women's sides Saturday afternoon at the Cal Poly Invitational in San Luis Obispo.
Saturday's meet featured participants from Fresno State and host Cal Poly, in addition to ASIC, Cal Coast TC, BYU, Cuesta Junior College, Fresno State, Notre Dame and Santa Barbara City College.
The women's club tallied five first-place finishes, as Mallory Webb and Katie Richardson both came close to surpassing personal-bests in the javelin and discus, respectively. Both athletes have already established NCAA Regional qualifying marks in those events.
Webb captured top honors in the javelin with a season-best toss of 162-6 (49.53m) while Richardson almost equaled her career-high with a season-best throw of 164-7.75 (50.19m) in the discus.
Regina Ollison, who has already locked up an NCAA Regional berth, won the triple jump title at a season-high 39-0.75 (11.91m). La'Sha Hill placed first in the shot put at 46-9 (14.25m) while the 4x400-meter relay team crossed the line at 3:50.33 to lead the field.
On the men's side, the Bulldogs posted three first-place performances. Jesse Smith ran a season-best 10.85 in the 100-meters to take first while De'Ante Brown leaped 22-11 (6.99m) in the long jump to claim the event title.
The Bulldog's 4x100-meter relay squad checked in at 42.34.
Fresno State is back in action next weekend, competing in a meet against Mt. San Antonio College and Cal State Bakersfield in Walnut, Calif.
