Fresno, Calif. - The Western Athletic Conference has announced the Player and Pitcher of the Week, and Junior Eddie Romero was selected for the honor for the week of February 27 through March 5. Romero picked up two wins as the Bulldogs went a perfect 4-0 on the week.
A junior left-hander from Fresno, Romero entered the March 1 contest against San Francisco in relief with the team behind 3-2, and retired five straight batters with one strikeout to get his first win of the week. Making his scheduled start later in the week, Romero had one of his best outings of the year, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing no runs and striking out six as the Bulldogs beat Portland 3-0, combining for his second shutout of the year.
This is the first WAC Pitcher of the Week award for the Bulldogs in 2006, and the second WAC honor of the season. Outfielder Steve Susdorf earned the Player of the Week award earlier in the year after hitting .714 as the Bulldogs won a home series against Pepperdine.
