FRESNO, Calif.- Mallory Webb and Katie Richardson both recorded personal-best throws in the javelin, finishing second and third respectively in the event on Friday night at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational in Los Angeles.
Webb established a career-best with a toss of 169-10 (51.76m), taking second overall in the competition. An All-American in 2004, she has already qualified for NCAA Regionals for the third consecutive season.
Meanwhile, Richardson continues to excel in the throws department for the Bulldogs. One week after notching personal-best marks in three of four events at the Cal-Nevada Championships, Richardson threw a career-high 163-1 (42.11m) to finish third and qualify for NCAA Regionals (she has already qualified in the discus). An impressive feat, considering her previous high mark was 139-2 heading into this weekend.
On the men's side, D.J. Haynes took fifth in the discus at 155-2 (47.30m) while Kyle Sunderland was fifth in the 800-meters at 1:54.07.
Competition concludes tomorrow at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational.
