FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team was unable to overcome the second-ranked Pepperdine Waves, Sunday in Malibu, Calif., as it was defeated 7-0. Pepperdine, which boasts three ranked players including No. 6 Scott Doerner, was just a little too much for the Bulldogs who have two more regular season matches remaining. Pepperdine improved to 26-1 on the season, while Fresno State fell to 12-6.
In doubles, seniors Sam Gibbs and Sergiu Modoc had the task of taking on the top ranked tandem in the country. But Pepperdine's Doerner and Begemann came up with the win, clinching the doubles point for the Waves. Junior Jakub Cech and sophomore Sam Tadevosian took Johnson and Altmann to the tiebreaker, but fell narrowly 9-8 (10-8).
Fresno State remained undefeated at home this season with a win against Pacific on Friday. The Bulldogs will finish the regular season at Stanford on Tuesday, April 11, and then at Santa Barbara on April 16. The WAC Championships begin on April 20 in Boise, Idaho.
