FRESNO, Calif. - Head coach Pat Hill and the Bulldog program continues to be respected by teams in the the National Football League with three players drafted and five more signing NFL free agent contracts.
Three Dogs were selected in the NFL Draft, held over the weekend in New York City. Cornerback Richard Marshall was as second round pick of the Carolina Panthers, receiver Adam Jennings to Atlanta in the sixth round and safety Tyrone Culver, also in the sixth round, to the Green Bay Packers. That was the highest total of draft choices by a school from a non-BCS conference.
Shortly after the draft, the following Bulldogs signed NFL free agent contracts:
-- Defensive end Garrett McIntyre with defending NFC champion Seattle
-- Running back Wendell Mathis signed with the Minnesota Vikings
-- Running back Bryson Sumlin with San Diego Chargers
-- Receiver Jermaine Jamison with Kansas City
-- Quarterback Paul Pinegar with Jacksonville
"Having this many players drafted and sign free agent contract is a heck of an accomplishment," said head coach Pat Hill. "It shows the caliber of players who have come through the program and what the people in the NFL think of the Fresno State program. We are very happy for these players and wish them well in their future in the National Football League."
Hill indicated a couple more Bulldogs players may sign free agent contracts in the coming days.
