FRESNO, Calif. - The 2007 Fresno State men's tennis schedule features 10 NCAA tournament teams and 13 home matches, including 2006 NCAA Champion Pepperdine.
The Bulldogs will battle some of the best teams in the country during the 2007 dual match season. Highlighted by Pepperdine, Fresno State will also take on NCAA participants Arkansas, Boise State, North Carolina State, San Diego, Tulsa and UC Santa Barbara. The Bulldogs will also participate in the Blue Gray Classic and will compete against three NCAA tournament caliber teams. Boise State, Tulsa and Arkansas all advanced to the second round of the tourney.
"I'm very pleased with the way the schedule turned out for the upcoming season," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "We will have many ranked teams coming to the Wathen Tennis Center for the 2007 season which makes the schedule one of the best in the country. The strength of our schedule will give the guys the best opportunity to compete at the highest level and prepare the team for the NCAA tournament."
Fresno State hosts Cal Poly, Loyola Marymount and Nebraska to kick-off the 2007 dual match season at home in January.
The month of February will test the Bulldogs at home and on the road. The squad will head to Oklahoma to take on Tulsa (No. 32 final ITA ranking) for its first road match of the year. The 'Dogs then return to the Wathen Center to host the defending champion Waves of Pepperdine. Road matches at USC and UNLV, followed by home contests against Pacific and Arkansas round out one of the toughest stretches for Fresno State in recent memory.
In March, Fresno State hosts five home matches highlighted by North Carolina (No. 42) State and Oklahoma. The 'Dogs will also participate in the Blue Gray Classic held in Montgomery, Ala. The classic will again feature some of the country's top teams like Louisville (No. 26), Notre Dame (No. 17) and Virginia Commonwealth (No. 14).
Fresno State concludes the dual season in April with two home matches and road matches against Utah State and Boise State (No. 27). The WAC Championships will be held April 26-29 in Boise, Idaho.
Fresno State was a perfect 10-0 in the Wathen Tennis Center during the 2006 year and will look to improve on its 15-7 record. The Bulldogs are 104-50 all-time versus the 2007 opponents.
