Sunday afternoon's Kickoff dinner, presented by the Quarterback Club, was again a tremendous success as over 1,400 guests were on hand for the event. The program-wide event provided opportunities to celebrate the commitment and dedication for everyone involved with the program, both on and off the field.
KMJ 580 AM, the home of the Bulldogs for football season was on hand with a live remote, speaking with head coach Pat Hill among others, and every player was on hand to provide autographs and meet fans of the team as the program prepares for the beginning of the 2006 football season on Sept. 1 against Nevada.
Younger fans were also given a chance to be involved in the event, as the dinner, held in the downtown convention center, housed booths for face painting, getting dressed up in a Bulldog jersey and football pads, as well as an area to practice kicking from a tee.
The program on the evening included special awards for Quarterback Club members Floyd Johnson and Fred Stein, as well as a live interview of Pat Hill by emcee George Takata and introductions of the team by each individual unit's coach.
Closing out the evening, associate head coach John Baxter highlighted the academic success of the program, recognizing 33 players that had a 3.0 GPA or setting an individual best in the classroom. Those players will be honored throughout the year, displaying a special patch on their uniform in the fall.
