FRESNO, Calif. - Vanessa Heroux and Tinesta Rowe fell 8-4 to Anastassia Lyssenko and Aileen Tsan of Sacramento State, Sunday in the Bulldog Classic doubles final. The 'Dogs tied the score at two before the Hornets won five straight games to take a 7-2 lead. Heroux and Rowe rallied for two straight games, but were unable to get any closer.
Lyssenko and Tsan, the four seed, topped Fresno State's Danon Beatty and Renata Kucerkova 8-4 in the doubles semifinal. Heroux and Rowe advanced to the final after defeating Sacramento State's Joyce Martinez Gutierrez and Luba Shifris 8-6 in the semis.
Fresno Pacific's Jalena Pandzic captured the classic's singles crown, but not without a fight. Nevada's Maria Mizyuk battled Pandzic in the first set before falling 7-5. Pandzic dominated the second set 6-1 to take home the title.
Heroux had a solid overall tournament. The freshman from Montreal, Canada, made it to the consolation final before falling 3-6, 6-1 (10-6) to Tsan. Heroux played seven singles matches and four doubles matches during the three-day tournament.
The Bulldogs will continue the fall season next weekend at the Cal-Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif.
