FRESNO, Calif. - The two-time defending Western Athletic Conference baseball champion Fresno State will have improved seating at Beiden field for its fans to watch them in as the Bulldogs go for their third-straight conference championship in 2008.
Over the years, minor repairs have been made to the stadium but the seats have not been replaced for over 20 years. On September 10, a five-person crew began pulling all 3,572 seats out of the stands.
Fresno State Director of Facilities Terry Logan said all of the old seats were pulled by the end of September and new seat backs were starting to be put in place the beginning of October. Approximately 500 seats are already in the stadium and Logan says it is expected that the crew will average installing 200 a day as weather permits.
"We had to make some facility upgrades if this program was going to move further ahead," said head coach Mike Batesole.
All frames will remain intact and be re-painted with the new Bulldog red color. The frames and seat colors were matched by the Cy Young Company out of Kansas City, Mo.
The paint crew entered the stadium on September 19 to begin prepping for painting which started September 25 in section A, above the visitors locker room.
Logan is expecting 1,000 seats to arrive every two weeks and the goal is to have all frames painted and seats in by December 1.
"When you get the Dugout Club, the Administration, the Alumni and our community all pulling together we can do things like this," added Batesole.
Fresno State begins its home schedule the end of February 2008.
