Bulldogs Open WAC Play

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team opens WAC play on Friday when they host San Jose State in Bulldog Stadium. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. Following Friday's match the Bulldogs will travel to Hawai'i for an 8 p.m. kick off in Honolulu on Sunday.
The Bulldogs lead the overall series with the Spartans 11-4-1. They have won three straight meetings, with the most recent win being a 1-0 victory in the WAC tournament last year. The Dogs also hold a 7-4-1 overall series lead with Hawai'i. Fresno State has won the last four meetings against the Rainbow Wahine. The Bulldogs defeated Hawai'i 1-0 in Fresno on October 29, 2006.
Fresno State is 5-5 and coming off a 1-0 victory over San Francisco last Sunday. Ali Sill tallied the only goal of the game just seconds before halftime. The match was played in front of a crowd of 3,334, the third largest crowd in school history. Nicole Gutierrez leads the Bulldogs with six goals and two assists while Sill has three goals and four assists.
San Jose State is 2-8-2 and coming off a week where they defeated UC Irvine 2-1 and lost to Saint Mary's 1-0. Jessica Scott leads the San Jose State offensive attack with four goals. Jackie Zabek and Kristin Krale each have two goals and one assist. Nina Butera has played the majority of the minutes in goal, 828:23.
Hawai'i has the best record in the WAC, at 7-3-2. Last week they lost at Loyola Marymount 2-0 and tied Pepperdine 1-1. Taryn Fukuroku has five goals and six assists. Her 16 points is the second best mark in the conference. Ambree Ako has five goals and two assists while Jessica Domingo has a WAC best seven assists.
Following this weekends contests, the Bulldogs return home for a 7 p.m. contest on October 19 against Louisiana Tech.
"Join the State - Fresno State!" -The Fresno State Soccer travels to play Hawai'i on Sunday, October 14 at 7 p.m. PST. The `Dogs will return home to play at Bulldog Stadium on Friday, October 19th during Homecoming week vs. Louisiana Tech at 3 p.m. After the game, students are invited to Bulldog Boulevard for a special Homecoming Pep Rally.
