Fresno State vs. Idaho
Kibbie Dome
Fast Starts
Fresno State jumped a 10-0 lead over the Vandals, getting off to a great start on the road for the second straight game. The Dogs jumped on Nevada 14-3 in the first quarter of last week's game as they cruised to a 49-41 victory in Reno. Against Idaho, Fresno State scored on its first two possessions of the second half to run its lead to 31-7.
Pounding It Home
Fresno State's effectiveness running the ball and on special teams have kept their passing scores down. Since the Oregon game, the Dogs have scored 14 touchdowns, but only one via the air. The remaining touchdowns have been on the ground or via big special teams plays. Two Bulldog running backs, Lonyae Miller and Ryan Mathews, ran for four touchdowns the against the Vandals.
Coming Home
After playing just two home games in the first 53 days of the college football season, Fresno State will return to Bulldog Stadium next Saturday for Homecoming against rival San Jose State. It starts a three-game homestand for the Dogs, with games against Boise State and Utah State after the game against the Spartans. Tickets are available for all three games by clicking the tickets icon at the top of this page.
Bear Tracks
Junior tight end Bear Pascoe was Fresno State's leading receiver for the fourth time this season. Pascoe continues to lead the Dogs in receiving with 6 receptions for 69 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Mr. Touchdown
Bulldog freshman Ryan Mathews, with two touchdowns today, tied the Bulldog freshman single season record for touchdowns with seven on the season. He's scored five touchdowns in the last two games alone. The Bulldog freshman touchdown record is shared with current New York Giants running back Derek Ward, who scored seven touchdowns in 1999.
Road Warriors
The Dogs have won consecutive WAC road games for the first time since the 2005 season, when they won at Idaho and Hawaii. The Dogs have scored 83 points on this road swing.
Victory over Vandals
Fresno State is now 3-0 over Idaho in the last three years, winning by a combined score of 114-34.
Noteworthy
Fresno State is 7-3 in its last 10 games, dating back to last season ... Wilson Ramos picked up the first fumble of his career, getting the ball back from Vandals on the first play after a Bulldog first quarter turnover ... Pat Hill made his first challenge of an official's call in his career, when he believed Lonyae Miller didn't fumble after a long run in the second quarter. The call on the field stood and the Vandals scored on the first play after the fumble, a 54 yard touchdown pass ... Tom Brandstater suffered a sack in the second quarter, the first the Bulldog line allowed since the Louisiana Tech game on Sept. 29 ... the Dogs ran 41 plays in the first half against Idaho, just 10 fewer than they had for the entire Nevada game ... the strangest play of the Bulldog season happen in the third quarter when three Dogs, led by Marcus Riley, hit Vandal quarterback Brian Hooy on a scramble play. In the collision, the ball popped 20 feet in the air and seven yards backwards, where it was grabbed by running back Deonte Jackson, who raced 41 yards for an Idaho touchdown. That score closed the gap to 31-14 late in the third quarter ...
