Bulldogs Advance at ITA Regionals in Malibu

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State men's tennis team got the 2007 Regional Championships started on the right foot, Wednesday in Malibu, Calif. The Bulldogs advanced five in singles play and two teams in the doubles draw and will continue on Thursday at Pepperdine.
Junior Rudolf Siwy improved his record to 5-2 after defeating Ryan Mayer of UC Irvine in straight sets. Siwy is coming off a good showing at the All-American in Tulsa, Okla., where he went 4-2.
Freshman Denny Fafek go his first win of the year, defeating Irvine's Zach Tsai in three sets. Siwy and Fafek narrowly lost in doubles to UC Santa Barbara's Barton and Hejazi.
Sophomore Mirko Zapletal improved to 2-1 on the season with a straight-set victory over Cal Poly's Nick Berger, and sophomore Flavio Mollined advanced by default.
Freshman Siddharth Alapati stayed perfect on the year after beating UCLA's Chris Ho 6-2, 6-1. Alapati entered this week's tournament unbeaten, having won the Bulldog Classic Flight 3 singles title two weeks ago.
Zapletal and sophomore Tejesvi Veerepalli won convincingly in doubles, defeating San Diego's Quiroga and Schive 8-2. Alapati and sophomore Taylor Leiby advanced by default.
