Three Bulldogs Advance at Regional Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - The round of 32 is sure to feature highly-competitive tennis on Friday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regional Championships in Malibu, Calif. After Thursday's round of 64, junior Rudolf Siwy will face-off with 2007 Bulldog Classic Champion Dean Jackson.
Siwy did not participate in the Bulldog Classic this season because he advanced to the prestigious ITA All-American in Tulsa, Okla. Jackson, a freshman at San Diego, won all five of his singles matches en route to the Bulldog Classic title on Oct. 7 at the Wathen Tennis Center. Siwy is now 6-2 on the season after Thursday's victory. The two are scheduled to play at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.
Sophomore Mirko Zapletal also advanced, defeating Jack Lewis of USC 7-5, 6-1. Zapletal improved to 3-1 on the season and will play at approximately 1 p.m. in the round of 32.
Freshman Denny Fafek won his second straight while defeating LMU's Stefan Nikolic 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Flavio Mollinedo lost to Jason McNaughton of USC 6-2, 7-5, and freshman Siddharth Alapati was edged in three sets by Yohan Berhof of LMU. Sophomore Tejesvi Veerepalli defeated Loyola Marymount's Renzo Maggi in straight sets during the first round of consolation play.
Zapletal and Veerepalli beat Arizona State's Bellama and Rebaza 8-6 in the round of 32, while Alapati and sophomore Taylor Leiby fell narrowly to Arizona's Christen and Goldman, 9-7. Zapletal and Veerepalli will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday in the doubles round of 16.
