FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Tejesvi Veerepalli won his sixth-straight singles match en route to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association consolation title at the Regional Championships in southern California on Sunday.
Veerepalli got started with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Arizona's Nathan Cochrane in the consolation semifinals after wildfires in the Malibu area forced competition from Pepperdine to UCLA.
In the final, Veerepalli beat Jay Goldman of Arizona in the super-tiebreaker to complete his run over the past four days.
"Veerepalli played very well today," head coach Jay Udwadia said. "It was good to see him playing some of his best tennis these past couple of days."
