Alires Named WAC Defensive Player of the Week

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State senior defender Andrea Alires has been named WAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performances last week against Louisiana Tech and Utah State.
Alires led the defensive charge in the 4-0 route over Louisiana Tech on Friday and the 1-0 victory over Utah State on Sunday, improving Fresno State's record to 3-1 in league play. Alires also registered two assists in the win over the Lady Techsters and helped hold them to seven shot attempts. The Bulldog defense has recorded seven shut outs this season.
"Dre has been the leader of our defense all season," Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe said. "It is great to hear that she has been honored as the Defensive Player of the Week."
Stephanie Yoro was also nominiated for WAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
