Fresno State Double the Trouble at Bulldog Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - It will be an all-Fresno State doubles final on Sunday when the Bulldog Classic concludes at the Wathen Tennis Center. Both of Fresno State's doubles tandems advanced after winning in the semifinals of the top flight on Saturday.
Top-seeded sophomores Tejesvi Veerepalli and Mirko Zapletal faced elimination while trailing Fresno Pacific's Matt Carroll and Vicente Jolly 7-5 in the semifnals. But the Fresno State tandem broke serve and eventually won four straight games to earn a 9-7 victory.
In the other semi, freshman Denny Fafek and sophomore Taylor Leiby were solid while ousting second-seeded Geoff Chizever and Pedro Zerbini of Cal, 8-4.
Freshman Siddharth Alapati advanced to the third flight's final in singles. Alapati started the day with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Tamber Antabi of San Diego in the quarterfinals. He followed by beating Santa Clara's Kenzo Hirakawa-Wong 6-2, 6-1 in the semis. He faces Cal's Nicolai Horgen in the final on Sunday.
Veerepalli got two wins in the consolation rounds. He beat Darryn YOung of Cal Poly 6-0, 6-2, then downed Fresno Pacific's Fabio Silva 6-0, 6-1. Veerepalli will battle Derek Drabble of Washington in the consolation semifinals.
