Siwy and Zapletal Continue at SoCal Championships

FRESNO, Calif. - After the first day of competition at the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships, junior Rudolf Siwy and sophomore Mirko Zapletal remain in the doubles draw. In singles, both went 1-1, each winning in the round of 32 before falling in the round of 16.
Siwy opened with a straight-set victory over Mathias Weber of Azusa Pacific. He then fell to UCLA's Nick Meister 6-2, 7-5.
Zapletal beat UCSB's Jack Hui in three sets during the round of 32. In the round of 16, Zapletal fell to Pepperdine's Omar Altmann 6-1, 6-3.
Siwy and Zapletal advanced by default and will play Azusa Pacific's John Phillips and Mathias Weber in doubles on Friday.
Other members of the men's tennis team will head to Las Vegas for the UNLV Invitational, Nov. 2-4. Sophomores Flavio Molinedo and Tejesvi Veerepalli and freshmen Denny Fafek and Siddharth Alapati will participate in the event.
Along with UNLV and Fresno State, Arkansas, Fresno Pacific, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Tennessee will also compete. The tournament is made up of two singles flights and one doubles flight.
