BOISE, Idaho - Six Bulldogs were named All-WAC performers on Wednesday evening at the Western Athletic Conference tournament banquet in Boise, Idaho. Seniors Andrea Alires and Amanda Reyes, juniors Selena Gill, Nicole Gutierrez and Alison Sill and freshman Kaity Revel earned the honors.
Sill earned All-WAC status for the third time in her career and was named to the first-team for the second straight season. This year, Sill has led the team in assists with eight and is only one assist shy of breaking the Fresno State single-season record. She also scored three goals, two of which were game winners.
Reyes was named to the first-team and it was the first time in her career she has earned the honor. Reyes scored five goals in the last three regular season games of the year and is second on the team in points with nine goals and two assists. She was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17.
Revel was named the first-team's goal keeper as only a freshman. She was twice named WAC Defensive Player of the Week over the course of the season. She has recorded eight shut outs and made 63 saves while only allowing 14 goals.
"I was really pleased to see Amanda get some recognition," said head coach Steve Springthorpe. "Ali continues to be one of the top performers in the WAC and Kaity had some really strong performances this year."
Alires and Gill, both named to the second-team, were part of a strong back line that helped Revel record eight shut outs. Alires has played a school record 5611 minutes and had six assists this year. She had two assists in a 4-0 win over Louisiana Tech and was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week once this year. Gill recorded one assist during the season and provided great defensive stability for the Bulldogs all year long.
Gutierrez, a second-team selection, leads the Bulldogs with 10 goals and five assists. She recorded her first career ht trick against UTEP on Sept. 28.
"I'm glad Andrea and Selena were selected as All-WAC players," Springthorpe said. "Andrea has been a part of this defense for a long time and she really earned it this year."
The Bulldogs face Nevada at 3 p.m. (2 p.m. PT) in the first round of the WAC tournament on Thursday.
