Three Bulldogs Earn Regional Rankings

FRESNO, Calif. - Junior Rudolf Siwy and sophomores Mirko Zapletal and Tejesvi Veerepalli all earned regional rankings on Dec. 7 when the rankings were released.
Siwy earned a No. 17 ranking in singles. Siwy went 7-4 in singles while participating in the ITA All-American, the West Regional Championships and the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. He won three straight at the All-American to get into the main draw. Despite losing in the first round, Siwy won a consolation match and had two wins over ranked opponents during that week. Overall, Siwy had three wins over ranked opponents during the fall season.
Zapletal earned a No. 29 ranking in the region. He went 4-3 in the fall while participating in the Bulldog Classic, the West Regional Championships and the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships. Zapletal was last year's team MVP while winning a team-best 17 matches in the dual season.
Zapletal and Veerepalli earned a No. 8 ranking in doubles. The duo was 6-1 in the fall while winning the Bulldog Classic doubles title. The tandem advanced to the round of 16 during the West Regional Championships.
Although he did not earn a singles ranking, Veerepalli had a solid fall season. He went 10-4 and won seven straight matches during one stretch. He won the West Regional Championships consolation final and was a finalist in the consolation bracket at the Bulldog Classic.
Freshman Siddharth Alapati had an outstanding first semester for the Bulldogs during the fall. He went 8-1 with two singles titles. Alapati wion four matches to capture the Bulldog Classic Flight 3 title in early October. Then in November, Alapati won all three of his matches at the Rebel Classic to secure the Flight 2 singles title.
Freshman Denny Fafek finished the fall season on a three-match winning streak. After losing in the first round of the Rebel Classic, Fafek responded with three consecutive victories to capture the consolation final. Fafek and sophomore Taylor Leiby played well in doubles together. The duo won three-straight in the Bulldog Classic before losing to Veerepalli and Zapletal in the final.
The Bulldogs open the 2008 dual campaign at home against Cal Poly on Jan. 20 in the Wathen Tennis Center.
