Bowl Success
Not only have the Bulldogs been in eight bowl games in their last nine seasons, they have won four of the last five.
Terrific Tom
Junior quarterback Tom Brandstater had a fantastic performance Monday and earned MVP honors in the 2007 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl. Brandstater completed 23 passes for 285 yards and one touchdown. He added 40 rushing yards and another TD on the ground in leading the Bulldogs to victory. His 285 passing-yards were the second highest in his career. He finishes the season having not thrown an interception in his final four games. .
Starting Fast
Fresno State's 20 first-half points were the most in a bowl game when holding a lead in over 20 years. The Dogs scored 23 points in the first half of Cal Bowl V on the way to a 51-7 victory in Bulldog Stadium. The Dogs scored 21 points against Michigan State in the 2001 Silicon Valley Football Classic but trailed at halftime 37-21.
Stitser the Humanitarian
Senior kicker Clint Stitser was selected the Humanitarian Award Winner of the 2007 Roady's Humanitarian Bowl. Stitser finished his career with two field goals and XX points in the game. For his career, he scored 224 points.
Pascoe for Mackey in 2008
Junior tight end Bear Pascoe, finally healthy, got a jump start on his campaign for the 2008 Mackey Award. After missing parts of several games toward the end of the season, he looked like is early-season form with X receptions of XX yards. He was instrumental in the run game, including a great block that sprung quarterback Tom Brandstater for a XX touchdown run.
Clutts Adds Another
Senior end Tyler Clutts added the 23rd sack of his brilliant career, getting Tech quarterback Tyler Bennett late in the first half on a fourth-down play. That turned the ball over to the Dogs who converted with a 40-yard Clint Stitser field goal to end the half.
Another Bowl Win Over a BCS Team
Fresno State has now beaten a BCS team in a bowl game the last four times it has played. That includes two wins over Georgia Tech, and wins over UCLA and No. 18 Virginia, also in the Humanitarian Bowl.
Dogs on ESPN
Fresno State made its 54th national television appearance. The Dogs are among the nation's most watched teams this decade. Each of the last four games for the Dogs have been on ESPN2. In all six Bulldog games were nationally televised this season (Texas A&M, Boise State, Hawaii, Kansas State and New Mexico State).
Batman Strikes Again
Clifton Smith's 43 yard touchdown run to start the second half, which game the Dogs a 27-7 lead, was the longest run of his career. For the Fresno State team MVP, it was his sixth touchdown of the season.
Noteworthy
Sophomore Marlon Moore scored his first career rushing touchdown ... junior tight end Drew Lubinsky's second quarter touchdown grab was the first of his career ... quarterback Tom Brandstater scored a rushing touchdown in each of the final three games of the season ... the Dogs earned their 12th win over a BCS Conference school with the win ... Georgia Tech came into the game ranked 12th in rushing defense, holding opponents to 100.2 per game, Fresno State rushed for 286 yards in the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl... the Yellow Jackets averaged four sacks a game, best in the nation, but were unable to sack quarterback Tom Brandstater Monday at the Roady's Humanitarian Bowl.
