Bulldogs Notch Win Against Matadors, 8-4

Fresno, Calif. - On a cold night at Beiden field the Fresno State baseball team (2-5) notched their second win of the season against Cal State Northridge (6-4) by a score of 8-4 Tuesday night. The Bulldogs connected on six hits on 33 at bats to the Matadors six hits in 22 at bats.
Freshman pitcher Clayton Allison (0-0, 4.76) earned the start for the Bulldogs and threw 5.2 innings and allowed six hits on four runs.
Bobby Pascal (0-0, 6.23) grabbed the start for the Matadors throwing three innings and allowing three hits on four runs.
To get the Bulldogs off on the right track Fresno State jumped on the board first in the first inning with a deep bomb to left field from Todd Sandell.
In the third inning Fresno State poured three more runs to go up 4-0. With two players on base Brian Lapin tripled to center field scoring two RBI's on the play.
Cal State Northridge answered back in the top of the fourth building a run of its own. The first two batters singled to the right side placing two Matadors on first and second. With the next at bat John Parham hit a double to left field and advanced to third on an error. The Matadors scored two runs on that play. In the next at bat Kris Kasarjian singled through the gap in right field bringing in John Parham for the last run of the inning.
The Bulldogs scored another run in the bottom of the fourth when Todd Sandell hit a sacrifice fly to left field making the score 5-3.
The Matadors tried to put together another run but fell short only grabbing one run in the sixth. Justin Wilson came in to relieve Allison and threw a solid one inning striking out two in three at bats.
Fresno State piled more runs in the seventh inning and put the game out of reach at 8-4. With Sandell on base Steve Susdorf doubled to left center scoring the Bulldog for another go ahead run. Susdorf advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Brian Lapin. In the next at bat Ozzie Lewis walked and reached second on a stolen base. Another run scored when Erik Wetzel walked making the score 7-4 and the last run of the game was scored on a wild pitch.
The Bulldogs will take on Cal State Northridge tomorrow night at 6:05 p.m. at Beiden Field.
