Bulldogs Sweep Lions

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State Bulldogs (5-6) won game three against Loyola Marymount (3-7-1) in extra innings at Beiden Field on Sunday by a score of 5-4.
Clayton Allison (1-0, 4.76) started on the mound for the Bulldogs pitching four and one-third innings allowing two runs on five hits. Tanner Scheppers threw two and two-thirds inning allowing one run on two hits and Jason Breckley earned the win throwing two innings allowing one run on two hits.
Starting pitcher and designated hitter Brian Wilson (1-0, 5.19) threw five and one-third innings allowing one run on four hits. Four pitchers who threw after Wilson allowed four runs on seven hits.
To get the Loyola Marymount on the board first in the second inning Sean Dovel hit a home run to right field. One more run scored when Michael Glomb hit a single up the middle advancing Angelo Songco to home.
The Bulldogs scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ozzie Lewis singled to right center scoring Mendonca all the way from second base.
The Lions scored their third run of the game when Taylor Shoop hit a chopper to first baseman Steve Susdorf advancing Wilson to home.
With the Lions leading 3-1 in the bottom of the eighth it only spelled trouble when top of the Bulldog batting order came to the plate. Loren Storey and Erik Wetzel singled to put runners on first and third. In the next at bat Steve Susdorf bunted on a sacrifice scoring Storey from third. The Bulldogs scored their next run when Brian Lapin singled through the left side bringing home Wetzel. Fresno State took the lead and scored its last run of the inning at 4-3 when Mendonca singled to right center scoring Brian Lapin.
In the last at bat with two outs and no one on base Taylor Shoop hit a home run to left field off the scoreboard tying the ball game at four a piece.
In the bottom of the tenth clutch third baseman Mendonca made his way all the way to second on hit a hard shot to left center. Ozzie Lewis grounded out to first base advancing the winning run to third base. With one out Dan Grubb hit a deep fly ball to center field scoring the winning run with Mendonca tagging on the play. Bulldogs go on to win 5-4 in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The Bulldogs offense had three players go 2-for-4 in Wetzel, Mendonca and Lewis. Brian Lapin went 2-for-3 with two singles and Storey when 2-for-5 with two singles.
Fresno State moving to (5-6) will travel to Malibu, Calif. to take on the No. 19 Pepperdine Waves (7-3-1) in a three-game series at Eddy D. Field with the first pitch on Friday at 2:00 p.m. The following two games will be on Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
