Fresno State Finishes in 19th Place at John Burns Intercollegiate

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's golf team (296-296-299 - 892) finished in 19th place at the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Leilehua Golf Course in Wahiawa, Hawai'i.
Freshman Brad Wyatt (72-72-74 - 218) finished in a tie for 44th to lead the Bulldogs in the tournament. Matt Ryan (75-74-73 - 222) had the best round today for the `Dogs shooting a 73 to tie in 75th place. Gunnar Avinelis (72-75-78 - 225) tied for 87th followed by Matt Shaw (77-76-74 - 227) tied for 97th and Todd Angel (79-76-79 - 234) tied 116th.
"We went backwards today," said Head Coach Mike Watney. "We're going to have to practice a lot to get ready for the Classic."
No. 14 Brigham Young took the team title, after starting the day 10 strokes out of the lead, capped a final round of 270 to finish 30-under (834). All five BYU golfers shot under par on the last day of the tournament. They were followed by UNLV (-22), Texas A&M (-9), San Diego State (-8) and Colorado State (-6).
Auburn individual Frank Wrenn IV won the individual title at 13-under-par. He was followed by BYU's Jake Ellison (-12), Mike Drake of Long Beach State (-10) and Arizona's Brian Prouty and Arkansas' Andrew Landry (-8).
Fresno State men's golf team will resume competition to host the Fresno State Lexus Classic March 12-13 at the Sunnyside Country Club in Fresno, Calif.
