Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State baseball team won its first game of the season against the San Francisco Dons by a score of 5-4 Sunday afternoon at Beiden Field in front of a 1,740 fans.
Junior Clayton Allison, a transfer from Sequoias Community College would get the start for the Bulldogs throwing four innings allowing three hits on four runs. Junior Matt Baugh would grab the start for the Dons throwing 4.1 innings allowing five hits and four runs. Jason Breckley would earn his first save of the season.
The Dons would jump out the gate offensively combining for three hits and three runs in three innings of play. San Francisco would score one run in the second inning with Brian Chavez scoring from second on a single from Lucas Delong. With one out the second run would score from third on a Tavo Hall ground out to the shortstop on a fielder's choice. The third out was recorded on a fly out to center fielder Brian Lapin.
The Bulldogs would tie the game up in the bottom of the fourth at three a piece with Loren Storey walking to start the inning and Steve Susdorf hitting his first home run of the 2007 season.
In the bottom of the fifth Fresno State would take the lead 4-3 when Danny Grubb scored from third on a Storey bunt but San Francisco would answer back in the top of the seventh when it would score a run with Railey advancing on a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Bulldogs would take the lead in the bottom of the seventh on Tom Mendonca's second home run of the season and go on to win 5-4 for their first win of the season.
Fresno State will return to action on the road traveling to San Luis Obispo taking on Cal Poly at Baggett Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
