Bulldog's Fall to Hawkeyes, 10-8

FRESNO, Calif. - In a game Loren Storey and Brian Lapin had two home runs a piece Fresno State (12-13) fell by a 10-8 score to the Iowa (4-4) Hawkeyes Friday night in the fourth contest of the Pepsi-Johnny Quik Classic at Beiden Field.
The Bulldogs threw seven pitchers giving up 10 runs on the night. Right hander Joe Singer earned the start on the mound for the Hawkeye's throwing four innings allowing five runs on four hits.
Fresno State scored the first run of the game on one of two home runs from Storey.
Iowa came roaring out the gate in the top of the second inning scoring eight runs at 8-1 on six hits with one error by the Bulldogs.
To start the bottom of the second inning Brian Lapin homered scoring the second run of the game for the `Dogs.
Iowa scored another run on a sacrifice fly from Travis Sweet to put the game at 9-2 in the top of the third inning. Fresno State answered with one run in the bottom of the third with Erik Wetzel scoring on a wild pitch.
Fresno State cut the Iowa lead to 9-5 when Loren Storey hit his second home run of the night. The Bulldogs also scored two more runs when Lapin hit his second home run of the game and a single from Steve Detwiler up the middle scoring Todd Sandell at 9-7.
Iowa scored their last run of the game at 10-7 on a single from Dusty Napoleon bringing in Kevin Hoef from third base. The Bulldogs added one more in the bottom of the ninth inning when Dan Grub singled to center field scoring Alan Ahamdy from second base.
Left fielder Loren Storey notched three hits in four at bats with two home runs and two singles. Lapin went 2-for-3 with two home runs.
The tournament will continue at Beiden Field tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. when Dallas Baptist takes on Iowa. The last game will feature Dallas Baptist taking on Fresno State.
In the third game of the Pepsi-Johnny Quik Classic the Iowa (4-4) Hawkeye's defeated the Dallas Baptist (11-10) Patriots by a score of 17-13 in the 10th inning at Beiden Field in front of 1,678.
