Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Ohio

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team shut out the Ohio Bobcats for 12 innings Wednesday night at Bulldog Diamond, picking up 6-0 and 11-0 victories in the process. Fresno State only allowed a combined six hits in both games, improving to 24-11 on the season.
Robin Mackin allowed three hits and struck out 10 batters in the first game, improving to 17-6 overall. In the second game, Merryann Barr picked up her seventh win of the year, allowing three hits in five innings.
Fresno State begins Western Athletic Conference play Friday, March 23 when it faces Nevada at 2 p.m. in Reno. The Bulldogs will play two games on Saturday, March 23, also starting at 2 p.m.
To close the night, the Bulldogs beat Ohio 11-0, which included an explosive fourth inning.
Fresno State scored eight runs in the fourth, including two home runs from Kristin Sylvester. Sylvester homered to left field to begin the fourth and then came up eight batters later and belted a three run bomb to left center.
Sylvester finished the game 2 for 4 with four RBI and continued her hot play as of late. Haley Perkins set the tone at the top of the order, going 2 for 3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Michelle Palazuelos went 2 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored and Merryann Barr, Jenna Cervantez, Aja Scheuber, Ashley White and Shannon Garvin each had one RBI.
In the first game the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Fresno State added one in the second and one in the sixth for the 6-0 victory.
Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Jenna Cervantez and Merryann Barr, who each went 2 for 3. Cervantez hit her third home run of the season and Barr had one RBI and one run scored.
Nichole Willis hit her seventh double of the season, driving in two runs. Shannon Garvin went 1 for 3, driving in one RBI in the victory.
Robin Mackin was once again stellar on the mound. Mackin improved to 17-6 on the year as she struck out 10 batters while only giving up three hits and no walks.
