Bulldogs Down Louisiana Tech, 11-8

RUSTON, La. - To begin Western Athletic Conference play the Fresno State (13-15) Bulldogs gathered their first victory on the road (1-7) and their first victory since 2005 against the Louisiana Tech (11-18) Bulldogs by a 11-8 score Friday night at J.C. Love Field.
The Bulldogs first run came in the top of the first inning when Brian Lapin hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field bringing in Erik Wetzel from third base. Louisiana Tech answered with four runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning on six hits with two of them being home runs. The last run scored on a single from Kevin Winn knocking in Albie Goulder at 4-1.
Fresno State made up some quick ground scoring four runs in the top of the second inning and with the bases loaded Danny Grub singled up the middle bringing in two RBI's. The third run scored when Loren Storey hit a rocket up the middle knocking in Ryan Overland at 4-4. The Bulldogs took the lead and scored their last run of the inning when Brian Lapin hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs tied the game up in the bottom of the third inning when Dennis Winn doubled to left field scoring Jericho Jones from second base at 5-5.
The Bulldogs grabbed the lead at 6-5 when Brian Lapin grounded out to the shortstop in the top of the fourth inning.
In the top of the fifth inning the Bulldogs poured in three runs at 9-5 with two scoring on a Grubb single and one scoring on a single from Erik Wetzel.
The Bulldogs added their last two runs of the game at 11-5 when Ryan Overland singled to left center scoring Alan Ahmady and Tom Mendonca. Louisiana Tech added a run of the game at 11-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The last two runs of the game were scored a two run blast from Courtney Jones.
Clayton Allison earned the start and threw five and two-thirds innings allowing six runs on nine hits. Rashad Tucker relieved Allison for a third of an inning and Brandon Burke came in and threw
Wetzel went 3-for-5 with three singles. Todd Sandell went 2-for-3 with two singles and Susdorf went 2-for-4 with two singles.
Fresno State will continue action against Louisiana Tech tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at J.C. Love Field. The final contest of the three-game series will take place on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
