`Dogs Fall to Louisiana Tech, 5-3

RUSTON, La. - In the second game of the WAC three-game series the Fresno State (13-16) Bulldogs fell to the Louisiana Tech (18-12) Bulldogs by a 5-3 score Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field.
Louisiana Tech managed to jump on the board first with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. One run scored on a walk and the second on a wild pitch. Two more runs came in when Nick Grunewald singled through the right side and the last run advanced to home plate on a throwing error by the Fresno State Bulldogs. Fresno State had four errors in the second inning.
Fresno State never said die as it grabbed three runs in top of the sixth inning when one scored on a base hit from Tom Mendonca and two more on a double from Steve Detwiler at 5-3.
Justin Wilson (3-3) earned the start on the mound throwing six innings allowing five runs on seven hits. Brandon Burke relieved Wilson and threw one inning. Jason Breckley also threw one inning in the ninth.
Fresno State had three hits in 28 at bats on day while Louisiana Tech had eight hits in 30 at bats.
Head coach Mike Batesole's team moves to (13-16, 1-1) heading into tomorrow's game.
"Our team today played every inning of every out of every inning today but happen to fall short," said Batesole. "Experience is a key factor for our ball club and that is one thing these young men are learning along the way."
The last contest of the three-game series will continue tomorrow between the two teams beginning at 1:00 p.m.
"We will have to play smart tomorrow if we want to win," said Batesole. "Tomorrow will be a key game for our team."
