Bulldogs Set to Take on UC Davis and Sacramento State

On Deck
Fresno State (13-17, 1-2) is back at home this week and will take on UC Davis (8-13) Tuesday in a one-game contest for a 6:05 p.m. start. The Bulldogs will continue play at Beiden Field Friday at 6:05 p.m. for a three-game series against conference opponent Sacramento State (9-16, 4-2). The following two games will be on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Games can be followed live on the web with Gametracker, provided through Fresno State's official website, www.gobulldogs.com.
KMJ 580
Paul Loeffler with KMJ 580 will be in attendance calling the action for the games this week.
In The Hole
Next week the Bulldogs will travel to play in a one-game contest against Cal State Northridge on Tuesday, April 3 and a three-game series against Nevada April 5-7 at Peccole Park.
Scouting UC Davis
The UC Davis (8-13) Aggies finished with a 18-34 record overall last year. This past weekend the Aggies took two out of three games from Loyola Marymount. Fresno State swept Loyola Marymount earlier this year in a three-game series at home.
Last Meeting
The last time Fresno State faced UC Davis was back in 1977 when the Bulldogs took three out of four games that year by scores of 8-2, 2-3, 10-6, 19-6.
UC Davis Offense
The Aggies are led offensively by Daniel Descalaso who is hitting with a .388 batting average reaching second base 12 times. He also has two home runs on the year with 15 RBI's. The second note worthy player on the team is Aaron Hanke who is hitting with a .375 average finding second base nine times, knocking out two home runs and tallying 15 RBI's. Lastly, Justin Schafer is batting with a .345 average reaching second base twice and finding one RBI.
UC Davis Pitching
Key pitchers the Bulldogs may see is Trevor Fox who has a 3-3 overall record with a 3.68 ERA. He has pitched in 36.2 innings allowing 22 hits on 34 runs walking 14 and striking out 21 batters. Fresno State may also see Jeff Reekers who has 2-2 record with a 3.86 ERA allowing 13 runs on 32 hits.
Scouting Sacramento State
The Hornets finished last year with a 20-37 overall mark and a 8-16 (6th place) record in the WAC last year. This year Sacramento State has an 8-16 overall mark and a 4-2 mark in the conference. This weekend the Hornets are coming off a 1-1 series split against Stanford.
Last Meeting
The Bulldogs met the Hornets seven times last year defeating them in all seven. Fresno State faced Sacramento State three games at home, three away and once in the WAC tournament.
Sacramento State Offense
The Hornents are led offensively by Gabe Jacobo who is batting with a .361 average reaching second base 10 times and third base once. He has five home runs on the year with 21 RBI's. Montana Dye is second on the ball club with a .346 batting average advancing to second and third base twice. He has one home run with 13 RBI's.
Sacramento State Pitching
The Hornents are led defensively by Alvaro Orozco who has a 4-2 overall record with a 3.69 ERA. He has thrown in 46.1 innings allowing 22 runs on 54 hits. He has also struck out 24 and walked 19 batters. Mick Joyce is a noteable candidate the Bulldogs may face with a 1-3 record and a 6.67 ERA. He has allowed 22 runs with 22 strikeouts and 12 walks.
Fresno State vs. Opponents
The Bulldogs are batting with a .279 average compared to their opponents who are hitting a .286 average. In 1,008 at bats Fresno State has connected on 281 hits compared to an oppenent who has 1,039 at bats connecting on 297hits. Fresno State also has 47 doubles, nine triples, 27 home runs and 157 RBI's compared to the opponents who have tallied 47doubles, 9 triples, 22 home runs and 157 RBI's.

In the second game of the WAC three-game series the Fresno State (13-16) Bulldogs fell to the Louisiana Tech (18-12) Bulldogs by a 5-3 score Saturday afternoon at J.C. Love Field. Freshman Alan Ahmady went 1-for-3 with one double
Fresno State vs. Louisiana Tech - Game Three
The Fresno State (13-17) Bulldogs lost the final contest of the three-game series against the Louisiana Tech (19-12) Bulldogs by a score of 8-6 Sunday afternoon at J.C. Love Field. Junior center fielder Brian Lapin went 3-for-4 with double and two singles in the 8-6 loss to conference opponent Louisiana Tech.
Wetzel While You Work
Sophomore Erik Wetzel is leading the Bulldogs with a .348 batting average connecting on 40 hits in 115 at bats. Wetzel has five doubles and one triple on the season with 14 RBI's.
Power at the Plate as of Late
Junior Brian Lapin has went on a rampage in his last 18 at bats notching 10 hits for a .556 batting average. He gathered one double, three home runs and five RBI's in the PJQ Classic. Senior Loren Storey also had three home runs in the PJQ.
Home Run Leaders
Steve Susdorf leads the pack of Dogs' with five home runs. Todd Sandell and Tom Mendonca have four home runs on the year. Alan Ahmady, Loren Storey and Brian Lapin have three home runs and Ozzie Lewis has two home runs on the year.
Clayton is Clicking
Clayton Allison has the best record for the Bulldogs in the bullpen with a 4-2 mark and a 4.30 ERA. He has been the Bulldogs ace as of late. In a game against Dallas Baptist two weeks ago Allison threw seven and one-third innings only allowing two runs on four hits. In another appearance this last year against Santa Clara on March 10th he threw seven innings only allowing three runs on eight hits.
Just Wilson
Justin Wilson was stellar in the PJQ appearing in two games starting one throwing six and one-third innings allowing three runs and five hits on a 1.42 ERA. He is currently 3-3 with a 2.89 ERA.
Breckley Brings It
Junior right handed-closer, Jason Breckley has five saves on the year. This has moved him tied for eighth in the record books for the Bulldogs.
Overall Pitching
In 30 games as a team the Bulldogs have posted a 4.78 ERA with 13 wins and 17 losses. Fresno State has let 179 runs cross the plate on 140 earned runs. There has been a total of 123 walks and 200 strikeouts. The Bulldogs have given up 47 doubles, nine triples and 19 home runs.
Storey and Lewis Own the Base Pads
Senior speedster Loren Storey leads the Bulldogs in stolen bases with nine on nine attempts. Junior Steve Susdorf is second on the list with five stolen bases in six attempts. Junior Ozzie Lewis is second on the list with four stolen bases in four attempts.
Opponents Pitching
The Bulldogs opponents have posted a 5.13 pitching ERA with 17 wins and 13 losses. The opponents also have combined for a total of seven saves, two complete games and let 175 of the Bulldog runs across the plate.
