FRESNO Calif. - Sophomore Rudolf Siwy was named the WAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for his outstanding week April 2-8. Siwy went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles, helping the Bulldogs beat both San Diego and UC Santa Barbara last week.
On April 5, Siwy and freshman Taylor Leiby trailed 1-0 against San Diego's Ozurovich and Wolmarans. But the duo won eight consecutive games, defeating the Toreros' tandem 8-1. In singles, Siwy dominated Chris Coetzee at the No. 2 spot, winning 6-3, 6-3 and helping the 'Dogs down San Diego 5-2. On April 7, Siwy and Leiby again won in doubles, beating UC Santa Barbara's Barton and Finklestein, 8-4. Then in singles, Siwy beat Anders Dalskov in straight sets as the Bulldogs beat the Gauchos 6-1.
It was the first Player of the Week honor for Siwy this year. He has been on a tear lately, winning his last four matches and six of his last seven.
