Bulldogs Finish Tied for 11th at Cougar Classic

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's golf (293-295-296 - 884) tied for 11th place at the BYU Cougar Classic Saturday. Sophomore Matt Shaw led the `Dogs in a tie for 18th place. Shaw (214) finished the tournament two under par after shooting a 70 in both the second and third round.
BYU won the tournament by an overwhelming, carding a final-round 282 to take the title by 15 strokes over runner-up Nevada. BYU won its second consecutive team title at Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah finishing 32-under 832. Colorado State (856) finished in third followed by UTEP (861). New Mexico rounded out the top five with a three round score of 863/-1.
Grant Doverspike (72-76-72 - 220) improved his standing after shooting a 72 in the third round to tie for 41st place. Matt Ryan (69-76-76 - 221) finished a stroke behind Doverspike to tie for 45th. Senior Gunnar Avinelis (78-73-78 229) tied for 79th while Brad Wyatt (78-77-82 - 237) finished in 97th.
BYU's Daniel Summerhays (67-71-67 - 205) beat out teammate Jake Ellison (66-67-73 206) after shooting a third round 67 to win the title by one stroke.
The `Dogs conclude regular season as they prepare to go to the WAC Championship April 30-May 2.
