Bulldogs On Track Defeat New Mexico State, 14-3

FRESNO, Calif. - With a double header scheduled for today's action the Fresno State (25-19, 10-4) Bulldogs defeated the New Mexico State (17-23, 4-10) Aggies by a 14-3 score in the first contest at Beiden Field. Justin Wilson threw seven innings allowing two runs on four hits. He tied a season and career-high eight strikeouts.
The Bulldogs took off where they left last night scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. In the first three at bats Fresno State recorded one run on three hits. Two more runs came in on a Steve Susdorf sacrifice fly and a Tom Mendonca single at 3-0.
New Mexico State grabbed one run in the top of the second inning on a fielder's choice at 3-1.
Fresno State put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring five runs at 8-1. The first run scored on an error by the Aggies. The next run scored on an Alan Ahmady sacrifice fly to left field. The last two runs of the inning came in on consecutive singles on one from Todd Sandell and the other from Erik Wetzel.
The Aggies scored their second run of the game on a Wade Gubbels single at 8-2. The Bulldogs put it at 9-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning when David Hernandez pinch hit grabbing an RBI on a ground out.
Fresno State scored its last five runs in the eighth inning at 14-2 on three hits. The three hits came from Ozzie Lewis, Hernandez and Steve Detwiler. New Mexico State scored one run in the top of the ninth with a final 14-3 score.
Loren Storey went 3-for-4 with three singles, two walks and one RBI. Brian Lapin went 2-for-4 with one double, one RBI and one walk. Ozzie Lewis went 3-for-5 with three singles and one RBI.
Sean Bonesteele relieved Wilson throwing two innings allowing one run on two hits. He also struck out two batters. Fresno State pitchers struck out 10 batters total in game one of the double header. The Bulldogs also had 18 hits.
