Bulldogs Drop Game Two Against Mustangs

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State (26-22, 11-4) Bulldogs dropped game two of three against the Cal Poly (23-20, 8-4) Mustangs by a 16-9 score Saturday night at Pete Beiden Field. On the night Steve Susdorf went 3-for-5 with two singles, one home run and two RBI's. Todd Sandell went 3-for-5 with thre singles and two RBI's.
After two consecutive hits by Erik Wetzel and Loren Storey to start the bottom of the first inning off the Fresno State Bulldogs scored one run on a wild pitch and another on a ground out RBI by Steve Susdorf at 2-0.
With two outs and the bases loaded Cal Poly jumped on the board when Pat Pezet singled to left field bringing in two runs to tie the game up at two a piece.
Cal Poly took a three run lead at 5-2 when Adam Buschini hit a home run to left field in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning Tommy Mendonca answered the call with the bases loaded bringing two runs home with a single to left center at 5-4.
Fresno State regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning by scoring two runs at 6-4. One run scored from a single by Brian Lapin to right field and the second run scored on an error by the Cal Poly right fielder.
Cal Poly tied the game up at 6-6 on sacrifice fly to right field.
The Mustangs took the lead in the sixth and added six more in the seventh to take the seven run go ahead at 13-6. In the sixth and seventh inning Cal Poly combined for a total of eight hits.
Fresno State answered with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to come within five at 13-8 when Todd Sandell singled up the middle.
To go up by seven at 15-8 Cal Poly scored two more runs in the top of the eighth. Fresno State had one more run added to the board in the bottom of the eighth inning when Steve Susdorf hit his eighth home run of the season.
Cal Poly added its last run in the top of the ninth inning on a wild pitch at 16-9.
The final game of series between both teams will continue tomorrow with the first pitch at 1:05 p.m. Probable pitchers listed tomorrow is right hander Tanner Scheppers (3-3, 5.02) for Fresno State and right hander Thomas Eager (7-2, 3.32) for Cal Poly.
