Bulldogs Fall in Game Three Against Cal Poly

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State (26-24, 11-4) Bulldogs dropped the third game of the series against the Cal Poly (23-23, 8-4) Mustangs by a 13-0 score Sunday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field. On the day catcher Ryan Overland went 2-for-3 with two singles.
In the third at bat in the top of the first inning for Cal Poly Grant Desme doubled off the left field wall and soon scored from second after a single from Wes Dorrell to go up 1-0.
Cal Poly quickly gained two more runs when Corey Barthel singled a chopper two hopper over the first baseman's head in the top of the second inning. Another run came in on a double from Kyle Smith at 4-0 and the last two runs came in on consecutive singles from the Mustangs at 6-0.
The Mustangs added a run in the top of the fifth inning on an error by the Bulldogs at 7-0. In the top of the seventh inning four runs came in for Cal Poly with one on a wild pitch and three more on a three run home run from Pat Pezet at 11-0. The final two runs came in at the top of the eighth inning on a two run home run at 13-0.
Junior pitcher Brandon Burke saw action today throwing four innings allowing one run on one hit.
Fresno State will next head to San Jose, Calif. to take on conference opponent San Jose State in a three-game series beginning Friday in a 6:05 p.m. start. Series action will follow with games on Saturday and Sunday.
