FRESNO, Calif. - For the second year in a row, a Bulldog football player has been recognized as the top graduating senior in Fresno State's Craig School of Business.
Bulldog kicker Clint Stister, a senior from Reno, Nevada, has been awarded the Dean's Medal. The medalists are chosen as the outstanding students in each of the university's eight schools and colleges of academic discipline and the Division of Student Affairs. The dean of each college/school selects an undergraduate medalist and a graduate medalist based on academic excellence, community involvement and other achievements.
At the 96th Commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Save Mart Center, President John D. Welty will announce the winner of the President's Medal. It is the university's top student recognition and is presented to one of the undergraduate medalists.
Last spring, Bulldog lineman Kevin Cooper won both the Craig School of Business Dean's Medal and the President's Medal. Cooper became the third Bulldog student-athlete to receive the President's Medal. Stitser completed his B.S. in Business Administration, Finance Option, with a 4.0 GPA. As a member of the Fresno State football team, he received the Top Dog award for the player with the highest GPA. He was elected by teammates to serve on the Fresno State Football Leadership Council and on the Student Athlete Advisory Council. He was a frequent volunteer for the Big Heroes-Little Heroes program, which builds relationships with patients at Children's Hospital Central California to increase self-esteem and establish role models. He is enrolled in the MBA program at Fresno State and plans a career in finance and investment banking. Ultimately, he plans to be a business owner.
As a football player, he has been one of nation's top kickers for the last two seasons, being selected a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker. He has one year of college football eligibility remaining and will play for the Dogs in the 2007 season. He's the strongest specialist player in Fresno State history, holding school records for his position in the bench press (395 pounds) and the squat (500 pounds).
"We are certainly very proud of Clint," said head coach Pat Hill. "As a student he has been perfect with 150 units of an A. As a football player and leader on our team, he's equally outstanding. He's a leader in the weight room, the locker room, serves as a team tutor to other players and does a significant amount of community service. He's the complete package for a Bulldog student-athlete."
