Shipley Tied for 28th at NCAA Western Regional

FRESNO, Calif. - Sophomore Jennifer Shipley (76-76-74 - 226) finished the third round at the NCAA Western Regional in a six way tie for 28th place. Playing at the par 71 Entrada at Snow Canyon Country in St. George, Utah Shipley finished 13-over.
Shipley joined Long Beach State's Kay Hoey (77-73-70 - 220) and New Mexico State's Lehua Wise (73-72-78 - 223) as one of three individuals chosen to attend the regional. Shipley came short of advancing to the NCAA Championship taking only the top two individuals that are not on one of the top eight teams. Hoey and Idaho's Kelly Nakashima were the two individuals to advance.
Starting the day on the 10th hole Shipley carded three birdies on the first five holes. She finished the back nine with a bogey on the16th and 18th hole. On the front nine Shipley bogeyed the first hole then made par on seven holes in a row before a triple bogey on the ninth hole to finish with a 74(+3) on the day.
Oklahoma State's Pernilla Lindbergh won the overall individual title with a seven-under 206 (68-68-70) while Arizona State's Anna Nordqvist finished second with an even par 213 (72-74-67).
In the team standings, Oklahoma State and Stanford tied for first place with 874's. The top eight finishers advance to the NCAA Championships. Advancing out of the West were: Oklahoma State, Stanford, Arizona State, Denver, BYU, UC Irvine, Pepperdine and New Mexico.
Shipley's season comes to an end with a handful of accolades on the year. Shipley earned first-team all-WAC along with a WAC golfer of the month and two-time WAC golfer of the week. Shipley shot a low round 64 when she won the UNLV Spring Invitational after going into a playoff with individual qualifier Nakashima.
Shipley and the Bulldogs will return to competition next fall.
