Notre Dame, Ind. - Fresno State sophomore pitcher Robin Mackin was named to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Second Team announced by CoSIDA on Wednesday. Mackin was named to the District VIII First Team, making her eligible for national recognition.
The Academic All-America program annually honors over 1600 student-athletes who have succeeded at the highest level on the playing field and in the classroom. Individuals are selected through voting by CoSIDA (the College Sports Information Directors of America), a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at her current institution and be nominated by her sports information director.
Mackin, a sophomore from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, made a single-season school record 55 appearances and tied Fresno State's single-season win mark (36) by a pitcher. She led Fresno State and the WAC in every pitching mark, notching her first 30-win season of career and became the sixth Bulldog hurler to post a 30-win season.
In the 2007 NCAA Regional action, made 100th career appearance in the circle and notched a 2-0 win over host No. 16 Stanford in the opening game for Fresno State. She was named to the 2007 Stanford All-Regional Team, going 1-2 (losses were 1-0 in 9 inn. to No. 3 LSU and 1-0 to No. 16 Stanford) and posting a shutout, with 19 strikeouts in 18.1 innings for a 0.76 ERA.
