FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State men's head tennis coach Jay Udwadia has accepted a position with the Pepperdine men's tennis team, announced by Pepperdine head coach Adam Steinberg. Udwadia will become the program's associate head coach effective immediately.
Udwadia was 38-28 in three seasons at Fresno State. The Bulldogs reached the finals of the Western Athletic Conference tournament under Udwadia in each of the last two seasons. He coached 11 All-WAC performers, including one WAC Player of the Year.
"I've enjoyed some of my best years in life at Fresno State," Udwadia said. "I feel very fortunate to have coached the men's tennis program over the last three years. The support from the community has been tremendous and it's something I'll never forget. Fresno State has some very special people working in the athletics department and I will truly miss them."
Udwadia built a strong program during his tenure, helping the Bulldogs reach No. 41 in the national rankings. He has coached players in each of the three major championships during the college tennis season and helped one to the Northwest Regional title in 2006.
"Jay has done a great job of stabilizing the men's tennis program at Fresno State," said Betsy Mosher, Fresno State's Senior Associate Athletics Director for Administration and Program Integrity. "His tennis program represents the best things about college athletics; student-athletes who are very talented in their sport, focused on graduation and totally involved in the Fresno State student-athlete experience. Jay's leadership of the program will be sorely missed."
