FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State head football coach Pat Hill sported a fake blonde wig as he entered the first day of training camp Monday morning. Hill looked excited and showed his energy about the 2007 season as the Bulldogs practiced in half pads and helmets on the practice field in perfect weather conditions, beginning at 9 a.m.
Hill, entering his 11th season as head coach, had long blonde hair sticking out of a hat visor, which was a pleasant surprise to players, coaches and media members gathering around the field. Hill's energy trickled down to his players, as the first day of practice showed many bright spots for the upcoming season.
"This is always an exciting time of the year," Hill said. "The first day of practice gives you a chance to see the returners, but it also allows you to check out the young guys in Fresno State gear for the first time."
Fresno State had a split practice for most of the day Monday, with the newcomers beginning morning workouts, followed by several team drills with all of the players on the field for the first time this year. After team drills the returners stayed on the practice field and closed out practice by 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs will hold training camp for most of August, which includes 26 practices, leading up to the September 1 season opener against Sacramento State at Bulldog Stadium.
Fresno State's first scrimmage will be held Saturday, August 11 at 7 p.m. The scrimmage will be in Bulldog Stadium. The Bulldogs' second scrimmage of camp will be August 18, before beginning preparation for Sacramento State and getting ready for the season.
