FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team earned its first road victory of the season on Friday as they beat Northern Colorado 3-0. Bulldog coach Steve Springthorpe saw contributions come from all over the field as three different players scored goals and four different players' tallied assists.
"This was a real good game for us tonight," Springthorpe said. "We got some space to work with in this game and we served a lot of balls in the box. We were more direct tonight than in past games."
The win ups Fresno State's record to 2-2 while Northern Colorado dropped to 0-4. The Bulldogs dominated the Bears in every statistical category, out shooting UNC 14-4. Ten of the 14 shots were shots on goal.
"I thought our defense really battled," Springthorpe said. "To only allow four shots was a real positive considering we were coming off a game where we gave up five goals."
In the 33rd minute Chelsea Davis put Fresno State on the scoreboard as she took a ball from Nicole Gutierrez and put a shot in the left corner of the net.
Then seconds before halftime, Amanda Reyes put the Bulldogs on top 2-0 when she scored a sliding goal in front of the net off a pass from Megan Tennant and Krissy Looney.
Ali Sill put the game out of reach in the 75th minute when she beat the keeper in front of the net and put the ball in the lower right corner. Andrea Salvador had the assist.
The Bulldogs rocky mountain road trip concludes on Sunday with an 11 a.m. contest at Wyoming.
