FRESNO, Calif. - An early goal by Nicole Gutierrez in the third minute was all the Fresno State women's soccer team needed on Sunday as they won at Wyoming, 1-0. The win lifts the Bulldogs to a 3-2 record while Wyoming fell to 2-3.
"It was a good team effort," Fresno State coach Steve Springthorpe said. "Wyoming is a good team and really battled. We are lucky to come away with the victory."
Sunday's victory was the second straight shut out for the Bulldogs as they beat Northern Colorado 3-0 on Friday.
The victory was even more impressive considering the Cowgirls out shot the Bulldogs 15-5. The Bulldogs had two shots in the first half and three in the second.
Kaity Revel recorded her second straight shut out as she made seven saves.
"She played a really solid game," Springthorpe said.
Springthorpe also credited Selena Gill for playing a solid game at centerback.
"She won balls in the air and cleared many more," Springthorpe said. "She had an outstanding game."
Gutierrez tallied her goal when she followed a shot off a Wyoming defender.
