Bulldogs Receive Academic Honors

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team not only had a successful season on the field but they had just as impressive of a year in the classroom as the team finished with a combined GPA of 3.381. It is the best GPA the team has had for a semester since coach Steve Springthorpe has been head coach.
Including fifth year players, 25 of the 30 athletes finished with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Earning a perfect 4.0 was Christina Gilbert, Megan Ashjian, Katie Lee and Antonea Lugo.
The Bulldogs had four players earn Academic All-WAC honors. Earning the award was Selena Gill, Nicole Gutierrez, Aubrey Tennant and Megan Tennant. Gill, a Mass Communication major, had a 3.67 semester GPA and she currently holds a 3.42 overall GPA. The Tennant sisters are Pre-Physical Therapy majors. Aubrey holds a 3.77 overall GPA and had a 3.789 semester GPA while Megan had a 3.789 semester GPA and a 3.74 cumulative GPA. Lugo, a Business Advertising major, has a 3.1 cumulative average. Gutierrez is a Criminology major who has a 3.26 overall GPA and finished with a 3.2 GPA for the semester.
To be eligible for Academic All-WAC honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the teams contests.
"I am happy we had our best semester in the last four years," Springthorpe said. "We got the job done in the classroom in the fall. It shows they are not only great athletes but great students. Kudos goes out to our team."
