Raymundo Named Volunteer Assistant Coach
Fresno State head coach Mike Batesole announced that Gregg Raymundo has joined the Bulldog coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. He will assist Batesole with the infielders.
"We are happy to add to our staff another outstanding Valley product," said Batesole. "Gregg was an outstanding player at Buchanan High School before having a great career at Pepperdine University, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree. Most importantly he is an outstanding person and a great role model for our players."
Raymundo joins the Bulldogs with plenty of playing experience. He played professional ball for nine years, with two of those years being overseas.
Raymundo played baseball at Buchanan High School and after graduating in 1995 he moved on to Fresno City College. At FCC, Raymundo earned Junior College All-American honors and was named Co-Most Valuable Player for the Central Valley Conference.
During the 1998 season, Raymundo transferred to Pepperdine University. While playing for the Waves, Raymundo earned two First Team All-West Coast Conference awards and jumped into the record books.
Raymundo holds the all-time slugging percentage record with.642 at Pepperdine. He is also third all-time career in batting average (.362), fifth all-time in on base percentage (.444), and sixth all-time in homeruns (29).
After the 1999 season, Raymundo was drafted in the 13th round by the Kansas City Royals. Over his nine year career he played in the minor leagues for the following organizations; the Kansas City Royals, Anaheim Angels, Texas Rangers, Toronto Blue Jays, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Montreal Expos. He also played in Israel.
"He will be a great addition to our staff," said Batesole. "His experience and knowledge from playing Division I baseball and up to AAA professionally will really help our infielders and hitters."
