Bulldogs Travel to Louisiana Tech and Utah State

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State soccer hits the road this week continuing WAC play against Louisiana Tech and Utah State. The Bulldogs face Louisiana Tech Oct. 17 at 5 p.m. and Utah State on Oct. 19 at 12 p.m.
"We look forward to playing LA Tech on Friday," said coach Steve Springthorpe. "They currently lead the conference in overall wins and have had a great season so far. It will be a really tough challenge for us on the road at their home field."
Louisiana Tech's overall record is 10-2-3. The top two leading scorers in the league are from Louisiana Tech. Kristen Sevier and Olivia Lukasewich leads the WAC with seven goals apiece. Fresno State leads the series 3-0. Last year the `Dogs beat Louisiana Tech, 4-0, in Fresno.
"Utah State currently leads the conference with a 2-0 record and at this point are the team that is in control," said Springthorpe. "I would expect that it will be a tight hard fought game between both of our teams. Every time we play Utah State is seems to be a defensive battle. Both our teams are very similar in many ways."
Utah State's overall record is 7-7-1. Shantel Flanary scored two goals for the Aggies last weekend. The `Dogs series record against the Aggies is 3-0-2. Last year the Bulldogs earned a, 1-0, win in Fresno.
"We are excited to play this weekend," said Springthorpe. "I am sure it will be a battle."
Last week, the Bulldogs hit the road and earned a double overtime win over San Jose State. Kaitlyn Revel shutout the Spartans and picked up an assist. Ali Sill also picked up an assist of a goal by Nicole Gutierrez.
The Bulldogs returned home and hosted defending WAC champion Hawai'i. After 110 minutes of play neither team could score. The defensive battle ended with a 0-0 tie.
Duo Reaches 22 This week Ali Sill recorded her 22nd career assist and setting a new record in Fresno State history. Nicole Gutierrez scored her 22nd career goal. She scored with four second left in the second overtime period. This was the third time this season that Sill and Gutierrez have connected for a goal.
Sill No. 1 Ali Sill has four assists on the season. She has 22 career assists and is the career assist leader at Fresno State. She set a new record Friday night against San Jose State.
Revel Shutouts Again Kaitlyn Revel and the Bulldog defense record their fifth and sixth shutouts of the year. Fresno State kept both San Jose State and Hawaii scoreless in the opening weekend of WAC play. Revel has 15 total career shutouts. She needs nine more to tie Angie Larsen with 22. She has a season high of 73 saves, she recorded 71 as a freshman.
"Join the State, Fresno State!" - The `Dogs continue WAC play on the road as they travel to Louisiana Tech on Friday, October 17 at 5 p.m. They return to Bulldog Stadium on Friday, October 24 as they host Boise State at 7 p.m. It's Take a Kid to the Game Night and all kids 8th grade and under receive FREE admission to the match when accompanied by a paid adult. It's also Fresno State Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night and all Fresno State Faculty and Staff will receive $2 admission with the presentation of their Faculty/Staff ID at the box office.
